Domestic Public Policy

Inflation and Monetary Policy: Past and Present

Grant Year: 2023

Laurence Ball and Yuriy Gorodnichenko will lead an effort to examine the causes and consequences of the recent surge in inflation in the U.S. economy. They will commission work from leading economists to address issues such as the role of inflation expectations in driving the current bout of inflation, the Federal Reserve’s measures of economic slack, and how inflationary shocks in certain sectors contributed to the rise in core inflation. The project’s findings will appear in a series of working papers, journal articles, and short summaries.
