Responding to China’s Authoritarian Exports: Surveillance, Rule of Law,and U.S.–China Competition

Sheena Chestnut Greitens, Adam Klein, and Rana Siu Inboden will lead a project to examine China’s efforts to export its authoritarian institutional model. They will analyze Chinese thinking on how internal security is intertwined with overall national security, document China’s activities to export its internal security system, and explore what might be an effective competitive response rooted in Western rule-of-law systems. The project’s findings will be presented in a book, a policy report, and articles.
