Seth Gershenson will research and write a book assessing the relationship between teachers’ expectations for their students and the success those students achieve in school and later in life. He will distill lessons from research related to teacher expectations for student success and the value of accurate and rigorous grading standards to develop an argument that teachers and schools should take steps to ensure that they maintain high expectations for all students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
