Family Background and Children’s School Achievement

Katharine Stevens will lead an effort to assess the relationship between family background and student success in school. She will analyze data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress that includes information on family structure and educational attainment of students’ mothers, and consider how a richer set of data on student backgrounds could inform policy design and analysis. The project’s findings will be presented in a report.
