Erin Hogan will assess the impacts of an initiative to reform how elementary school students in Mississippi are taught to read. She will explore how the state implemented its program to teach children to read by stressing phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension, which appears to have improved the performance of Mississippi elementary school students on national reading assessments. The project’s findings will appear in a series of papers.
