The objective of the International Security and Foreign Policy Program is to assist the U.S. policy community in developing effective national security strategies and foreign policies. The Foundation is committed to supporting projects that help the policy community face the fundamental challenge of ensuring the security of the United States, protecting and promoting American interests and values abroad, and enhancing international order.
The International Security and Foreign Policy Program seeks to address traditional security challenges, such as great power competition, and new challenges, such as those posed by disruptive technologies. The Foundation continues to support work on critical security issues in Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East. As part of this effort, the Foundation seeks to explore the challenges of responding to the emerging alignment of adversaries – China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea – that threatens the United States and its allies and partners. In this context, the Foundation seeks to support new thinking on how to reshape U.S. political, military, and economic instruments of power to cope with current and future challenges. The Foundation also provides funding to foster the next generation of scholars and analysts. It does so through two annual fellowship competitions: The Strategy and Policy Fellows Program and The World Politics and Statecraft Fellowship Program.
